The purpose of the M&E Health Check tool is to identify the existing capacity of your organization and the types of skills / tools that are most needed for you to pursue your impact goal. Based on the findings from the tool, a more targeted set of training and hands-on support recommendations will be shared with you.
The overall goal of this approach is to scalably and effectively deliver the capacity building services that organizations need, thereby amplifying the impact they can make through evidence-based decisions.
In the shorter term, the tool could be used to identify appropriate opportunities targeted support. In the longer term, IDinsight envisions that the tool could be administered annually as something like a ‘check-up’. It reports back key information on existing capacity and opportunities for additional ‘skilling up’ at both an organization and portfolio level.
This tool should be filled out by the Monitoring and Evaluation champion within the organization. In a best case scenario, this would be an individual whose role is to lead M&E activities within the organization. Should this person not exist, then we recommend identifying an individual who has a senior leadership role which includes analysing key performance indicator data for the organization and reporting key metrics externally. This may be a person in a strategic leadership role or a senior operations role.
The form is divided into three main modules, and various categories within each module. The three modules covered are:
The questions are framed as multiple choice questions, providing a range of options to choose from depending on where the organization sits with respect to the question. For example, here is what a set of response options look like and what they mean:
Upon completion of this form, IDinsight will review the results to validate the responses. IDinsight will share all responses back with the organization along with a report identifying current levels of development, areas of relative strength and opportunities for further development. This report will be split by the modules of the form with clear next steps that the organization may take.
The form is expected to take ~2 hours for the detailed version and ~30 min for the lite version. This can be done in parts if needed; Google Forms has an autosave feature where your responses to a section will automatically be saved when using the same account to complete the form.
We recommend answering every question in the form so it gives IDinsight all the necessary information to produce a detailed and accurate assessment report. In case a question is not relevant to your organization, please select “No” or the lowest response depending on the options.
